England gymnast taken to hospital after Commonwealth Games fall

England gymnast Gabriel Langton was taken to hospital after suffering a serious fall during the men’s team final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 19-year-old fell from the high bar and landed heavily, bringing the competition and television coverage to a halt while medical staff treated him. Officials said he was moving his arms and legs before being transported for further assessment.

Athletes and spectators waited in silence during the lengthy delay. Former Olympic champion Max Whitlock, who was commentating, described the moment as distressing and said it underlined the risks gymnasts accept when performing difficult routines.

The competition later resumed, with England winning the silver medal behind Canada. Australia took bronze. Team England thanked the medical staff and said further information about Langton’s condition would be provided when available.

Langton had recently joined the team as Whitlock’s replacement. The immediate priority is now his health, while organisers will review the incident and the response that followed.
